Five people were killed by unknown gunmen that invaded Rawuru village in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government, Plateau State, on Wednesday, according to Mr Terna Tyopev, spokesman of the state’s Police Command. Tyopev told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday in Jos, that two persons were injured in the attack that took place in the night. “This morning, at about 8 a.m., we received information from one Mr Kim Timothy, the Youth Leader of Rawuru Village, Fan District in Barkin Ladi Local Government, that gunmen hit the area around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. “According to him, the victims were returning from a birthday party at Pugu, a nearby Village, when the gunmen opened fire on them,” the spokesman said. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned Nigerians to continue to work for the peace of the country as the 2019 general elections draw closer. A group of armed men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have sacked Gudumbali town, the Local Government Headquarters of Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. Gudumbali is home to nearly 3,000 persons relocated by the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole and the Borno State government in June this year after four years of displacement in the heat of the insurgency. One of the residents of the town told reporters that the attackers looted food items and reportedly carted away with about five gun trucks. Many are feared dead in the attack which occurred on Friday evening while food items were being distributed to the civilian population. Some soldiers were reportedly dislodged by the assailants and are said to be taking refuge in a nearby military location at Damasak. The troops are, however, on a red alert as the activities of the armed group have increased recently around the lake region in the northern part of the state.

The President made the declaration, yesterday, in Abuja at the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). The meeting was in continuation of joint efforts to address prevailing security challenges in the sub-region after their meeting on November 29, 2018, in N’Djamena, Guardian reports. One Ms. Chineye Ndubiife has been arrested for murdering Wisdom, the 2-year-old son of her neighbor, Promise Samuel, in Lagos. The incident happened, on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at 70 Lawani Street, Alakoto, Olodi Apapa. The suspect who is cooling off in the cell at Tolu Police station revealed how she sent a child to call Wisdom from their room. Ndubiife, a mother of one, then took him to the backyard, where she hit his head against the wall, after which she hit him, again, with a big stone, leading to his death. . Consequently, she dumped the child’s corpse in the toilet, where Mr Samuel later found him. Asked why she killed the boy, Ms Ndubuife disclosed that her intention was to inflict severe injury on him so that his father would spend money on treating him.

PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has stated the reasons for his absence at the peace accord signing ceremony which held in Abuja earlier today December 11th. While his main rival, President Buhari was at the ceremony, Atiku and many other presidential candidates were not in attendance. The National Peace Committee, which organised the event, had said invitation was sent to all 73 presidential candidates contesting the 2019 elections.
