The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday declared Nyesome Wike of the People’s Democratic Party winner of the governorship election in Rivers state. Wike polled 886,264 votes to beat the candidate of the African Alliance Congress, Biokpomabo Awara who emerged first runner-up. After being declared winner, Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday dedicated his victory to God and the good people of the state for standing by the PDP despite the illegal actions of the enemies of democracy. J ustice Abiodun Adesodun of the Ekiti State High Court, has convicted a former cashier officer with Fidelity Bank, Ado branch, Ado Ekiti, Michael Adedayo Ihinolurinjon, and sentenced him to ten years in prison for stealing money from the bank’s vault and diverting customers’ deposits to personal use. Ihinolurinjon was on Thursday, August 15, 2019, found guilty of a two-count charge of stealing in a criminal case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office. The offence, according to the charge sheet, was contrary to Section 390 (g) of the Criminal Code Laws Cap 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012. Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo state, on Thursday met with President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking his intervention in the refund of over N32 billion his predecessors reportedly spent on federal roads in the state. Speaking with state house correspondents after the meeting with Buhari, Uzodinma said Imo is in “financial distress”. He said the funds, if released, will assist in clearing both salary and pension arrears. He said the consultants he engaged discovered that at least N32 billion was spent on federal roads in the past. Uzodinma said he briefed Buhari on the situation of things he met on the ground in the state, adding that the president listened to him.
