The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday declared Nyesome Wike of the People’s Democratic Party winner of the governorship election in Rivers state. Wike polled 886,264 votes to beat the candidate of the African Alliance Congress, Biokpomabo Awara who emerged first runner-up. After being declared winner, Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday dedicated his victory to God and the good people of the state for standing by the PDP despite the illegal actions of the enemies of democracy. A Magistrate court sitting in Lagos on Monday sentenced Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello a.k.a JJC skills to 14 days community service each. The court also directed them to pay a fine of N100,000 each. The magistrate, who also ordered that they should be placed in self-isolation, added that they must compile the names and phone numbers of everyone who attended Bello’s birthday party and submit same to the court. Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo state, on Thursday met with President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking his intervention in the refund of over N32 billion his predecessors reportedly spent on federal roads in the state. Speaking with state house correspondents after the meeting with Buhari, Uzodinma said Imo is in “financial distress”. He said the funds, if released, will assist in clearing both salary and pension arrears. He said the consultants he engaged discovered that at least N32 billion was spent on federal roads in the past. Uzodinma said he briefed Buhari on the situation of things he met on the ground in the state, adding that the president listened to him. Uzodinma’s predecessors are Achike Udenwa (1999 to 2007), Ikedi Ohakim (2007 to 2011), Rochas Okorocha (2011 to 2019) and Emeka Ihedioha who governed for seven months before the supreme court replaced him.
