Some researchers at the Migal Galilee Research Institute (MIGAL) in Israel say they have developed an effective vaccine against avian coronavirus infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and will soon create a human vaccine against coronavirus (COVID-19). IBV is a disease affecting animals. The researchers said the vaccine against IBV has been proven in pre-clinical trials. After four years of multi-disciplinary research funded by Israel’s ministry of science and technology in cooperation with Israel’s ministry of agriculture, MIGAL, on its website, the researchers said they have achieved a scientific breakthrough that will lead to the rapid creation of a vaccine against coronavirus. MIGAL said it has now made required genetic adjustments to adapt the vaccine to COVID-19, the human strain of coronavirus, and is working to achieve the safety approvals that will enable in-vivo testing, enable the initiation of production of a vaccine to counter the coronavirus epidemic currently spreading thro

    The first case of coronavirus has also been confirmed in Northern Ireland. The adult patient had been in Italy and travelled north from Dublin in the Republic of Ireland, chief medical officer, Dr Michael McBride said. The positive result has been sent to Public Health England laboratories for verification. The individual acted appropriately in reporting concerns to the health authorities but those most at risk who were in close proximity are being traced and checked, Dr McBride added.

  As Nigeria confirmed first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos State, the Federal Ministry of Health said it has already started working to identify all the contacts of the patient since he entered Nigeria. The ministry also cautioned against the abuse of social media and spread of misinformation that causes fear and panic. Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, in a statement, said that most people who become infected may experience only mild illness and recover easily, adding that it can be more severe in others, particularly the elderly and persons with other underlying chronic illnesses. The case which was confirmed on the 27th of February 2020, is the first case to be reported in Nigeria since the beginning of the outbreak in China in January 2020. The enforcement team of the Ikoyi/Victoria Island Clean-up Committee of the Lagos State Government has been attacked by some military personnel. PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened at the Bonny Camp on the Victoria Island. In a statement on Wednesday, the government said the team had been conducting daily raids on the area. The officials were said to have on Tuesday visited the roundabout and under the bridge opposite the Bonny Camp, which served as a store and distribution point for goods sold on the streets. A bill seeking to amend section 308 of the 1999 Constitution to provide immunity for presiding officers of the National Assembly including the Senate president, speaker, deputy Senate president and deputy speaker yesterday scaled through second reading at the House of Representatives. Section 308 of the country’s constitution provides immunity to the president, vice president, governors and their deputies. The proposal is to amend the section to accommodate the presiding officers of both national and state assemblies. Daily Trust reports that thunderous rejection is trailing the proposal. This is the second time that the proposal would be made during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has again said it is mandatory for all taxpayers and companies to register and obtain the Tax Identification Number (TIN) and display it on all documents supporting business transactions before April 12, 2020. FIRS made this known in a public notice published on Monday which was signed by its Chairman, Muhammed Nami. It stated that every company or business “shall provide their TIN to relevant providers of financial services not later 12th April, 2020, in order to update their existing records for accounts opened prior to the coming into effect of the Finance Act, 2019.” It also said banks and other financial institutions are required to request for TIN as a precondition for opening new accounts for companies and any other business. It further explained that Section 3 of the Finance Act, 2019, substituted the provision of Section 10 of the Companies Income Tax Act (CITA) which explains that “every company shall have a Tax Identification Numbe

A businessman, Chief Solomon Nwadiogbu, has accused the management of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, of poisoning his food while he was a guest at the facility to cover-up fraudulent financial activities going on in the company. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced former spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, to seven years in prison over a N400m fraud and money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Justice Okon Abang, who delivered the ruling, had earlier found him guilty on all seven-count charge in the case that had been on for over four years. The court held that Metuh had "actual and constructive" knowledge of the N400m that was transferred to his company, Destra Night Ltd, from Office of the National Security Adviser. Abang said, "The fact of this case is that it is a story of shame and moral decay we live in this country by dissipating public funds recklessly. "It is endemic disease that has eaten deep into the fabrics of this nation. "There must be a change in the way we do things in this country."

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina state has ordered the closure of a traditional healing center in Tashar Wali area of Dutsi Local Government Council of the state. According to Channels Tv, the governor gave the directive after he paid an unscheduled visit to the center on his way back from Daura LGA. Masari during inspection of the home observed that the center was oozing with stench and not hygienic as a healing home. But the healer speaking to the governor explained that the stench from the centre was coming from some rooms in the building were concoctions were made from writings within the Holy Qur’an.   Two churches were burnt at the weekend by Boko Haram insurgents who attacked Garkida, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Residential houses, hospitals, shops and vehicles were also torched by the terrorists. The Army on Sunday confirmed the death of a soldier. The burnt places of worship are a parish of the Living Faith (aka Winners Chapel) and Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa, a Nigeria (EYN) church.     China's top legislative committee on Monday passed a proposal to ban all trade and consumption of wild animals, a practice believed responsible for the country's deadly coronavirus outbreak. The official Xinhua news agency said the proposal was submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). 'It aims to completely ban the eating of wild animals and crack down on illegal wildlife trade,' it said. The report added that the measure was aimed at 'safeguarding public health and ecological security'. The Standing Committee is responsible for convening the 3,000-member NPC, but it has decided to postpone the annual session due to the health crisis. Beijing is yet to revise its wild animal protection law, but the passage of the proposal was 'essential' and 'urgent' in helping the country win the war against the epidemic, wrote state newspaper People's Daily.
