One dead, seven injured in Lagos – Ibadan expressway accident

O ne person was confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Mitsubishi Canter bus, a Toyota bus and a Bajaj motorcycle around Ogere Toll Gate on the Lagos – Ibadan expressway. Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Friday. Akinbiyi explained that the road crash which occurred around 7:52 am was caused by brake failure which led to the loss of control on the part of the Mitsubishi Canter bus driver. Ekiti begins public naming, shaming of sexual offenders

E kiti State Government has commenced implementation of new measures aimed at curbing sexual violence, especially child defilement and rape in the state. Governor Kayode Fayemi said the state would regularly name and shame every person, who has been convicted for sexual crimes. Fayemi, in a tweet on his Twitter handle began the naming with one Rev. Asateru Gabriel, who is serving a five-year year jail term for sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl. M ercy Aigbe has appealed to actor Adeniyi Johnson, to allow the past be in the past as his ex-wife and colleague, actor, got engaged and welcomed a baby boy with fellow actor, Kolawole Ajeyemi. Mercy and Toyin had a spat on IG in June 2018. Trouble started when Mercy went to congratulate Toyin's ex-husband, Adeniyi Johnson's fiancee, Seyi, on their upcoming wedding. This did not go down well with Toyin who called Mercy an ''Alabosi oshi'' and also insinuated that Mercy played a part in the crash of her marriage to Adeniyi. Toyin later apologised for her outburst. Mercy in a post shared on her IG page this morning, expressed how proud she is of Adeniyi who congratulated Toyin on her wedding and the birth of her son. DSS arrests El-Zakzaky, wife on return to Nigeria

L eader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) Ibrahim El-ZakZaky and his wife, Zeenat, Friday were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on arrival to Nigeria. El-Zakzaky and wife arrived in Nigeria through an Ethiopian Airlines by exactly 12noon at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja. Ibrahim Musa, IMN spokesperson confirmed that the Shiites was taken away by the DSS operatives. El-Zakzaky had rejected medical treatment in India, claiming the Nigerian government frustrated efforts to get his preferred doctors to attend to him and Zeenat. “All what we have seen here, have shown us that there is no trust, they just brought us here for another detention,” El-Zakzaky said while in India. J ustice Abiodun Adesodun of the Ekiti State High Court, has convicted a former cashier officer with Fidelity Bank, Ado branch, Ado Ekiti, Michael Adedayo Ihinolurinjon, and sentenced him to ten years in prison for stealing money from the bank’s vault and diverting customers’ deposits to personal use. Ihinolurinjon was on Thursday, August 15, 2019, found guilty of a two-count charge of stealing in a criminal case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office. The offence, according to the charge sheet, was contrary to Section 390 (g) of the Criminal Code Laws Cap 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012. The bank had written a petition to the EFCC alleging that while still a staffer, Ihinolurinjon stole the sum of N8,891,000 (Eight Million, Eight Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand Naira) from its vault, and also failed to remit a total of N7,251,600 (Seven Million, Two Hundred and Fifty-One, Six Hundred Naira) he collected from customers to the bank’s a...

P olice on Wednesday, August 14, recovered the body of an eight-year-old boy who was kidnapped and killed on July 31 in Kiruhura District, Uganda. The police said Ronald Kangume was kidnapped on his way to Christ the King Primary School in Ruhondwa Village, Kyakabunga Parish in Nyakashashara Sub-county by the family shamba boy. The suspects, both shamba boys, allegedly connived with a bank staff, to kidnap the boy and demand a ransom of $100,000 (about Shs3.6 billion) from his relatives. “The suspect offered to carry the young boy on a bicycle as he was going to school. He instead rode with him deep into the bush in the family farm and hid him. They then began calling the boy’s relatives for a ransom,” Rwizi Region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira said on Tuesday. Mr Kasasira said they demanded ransom from Mr George Kamugisha, Kangume’s grandfather, but they killed the boy two hours after they had abducted him. T he Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, on Wednesday accused the South-West of attempting to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari through the RevolutionNow protest called by former presidential candidate of African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore. CNG claimed that the RevolutionNow was a SouthWest conspiracy, hence Northerners refused to take part in the protest. N igerians have attacked Busola Dakolo, wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo, for claiming she was forced to sign a letter countering her allegation that Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) raped her. Busola, a mother of three, told the Guardian of UK that a silver Toyota tailed her as she was driving home and a white minibus with tinted windows was parked outside her house. By the time she got to her gate, the minibus with no police markings had blocked her path. According to her, a man appeared and told her to get out of her car, get into the bus and speak to his boss. A human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana, on Wednesday, criticised the Kaduna State government over the stringent conditions it issued with regards to the permission granted by the court to Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, to embark on medical trip abroad.  The Kaduna State government had expressed concern that El-zakzakay and his wife may seek asylum in India. Upon this, the Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led administration prayed the court to make El-Zakzaky, his wife and each of the other defendants produce two prominent sureties, including a first-class chief or emir to qualify for the foreign medical trip. Photographer, Busola Dakolo has opened up on her interview with the UK Guardian, saying she never signed a counter petition as being reported. The UK Guardian had quoted Dakolo as saying that she signed police’s invitation letter to Abuja at gunpoint. She had accused the Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo of raping her 20 years ago when she was still 16 years old. Pogba: Real Madrid Agree Five-Year Deal

Real Madrid have agreed personal terms with Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, according to Don Balon. Pogba has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for most of this summer and has until 5pm on Thursday (today) to leave. The Red Devils superstar has agreed a five-year deal with Los Blancos, that will see him take home around €17million-a-year, a total which equates to around £300,000-a-week. United want €170m for Pogba, while Real are not willing going to go past €150m. Nigerian Army confirms killing of three policemen and one civilian in error

The Nigerian Army Wednesday night confirmed that its troops attached to 93 Battalion, Takum, Taraba State, shot dead three policemen and one civilian after they were mistaken for kidnappers. Army spokesman Sagir Musa said the soldiers were responding to a distress call from members of the community to rescue a kidnapped victim. The army chief said the team of police in a white bus “refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive check points”, hence, prompting the army to suspect them as the kidnappers. “The flagrant refusal of the suspected kidnappers to stop at the three checkpoints prompted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects by the troops,” Musa said. “It was in this process that the suspected kidnappers who were obviously armed opened fire at the troops sporadicaly thus prompting them to return fire,” Musa alleged. “It was only after this avoidable outcome that one of the wounded suspects disclosed the fact that they were indeed policemen dispatched from Nig...

El Zakzaky: Kaduna Govt Gives Conditions For Fulfilling Court Order

T he Kaduna state government has given conditions that must be fulfilled before it will allow the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat to travel to India for medical treatment as granted by the Court. In a statement issued in Kaduna Wednesday evening, the state commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the state government will appeal the ruling of the Kaduna high court ruling allowing El Zakzaky to travel to India for treatment. It however, said the state will not seek a stay of execution because it believes that people should have access to treatment anywhere at their own cost.
