A Magistrate court sitting in Lagos on Monday sentenced Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello a.k.a JJC skills to 14 days community service each. The court also directed them to pay a fine of N100,000 each. The magistrate, who also ordered that they should be placed in self-isolation, added that they must compile the names and phone numbers of everyone who attended Bello’s birthday party and submit same to the court. As scientists and researchers all over the world scramble to develop treatment for the deadly coronavirus (COVID 19) that has infected over one million people globally and claimed 63,894 lives, many doctors have said the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine seems to be the most effective treatment for patients. But few doctors are prescribing it in the US, as in other hard-hit countries like Spain, according to a survey. The survey of 6,200 doctors around the globe published by Daily Mail of UK revealed that while few corners of the world were untouched by the virus, the pandemic was being handled very differently from country-to-country. COVID-19: Osun discharges one index case, 109 foreign returnees

The Osun State has released one index case and 109 foreign returnees who came in to the State from United Kingdom and Cote d’Ivoire, respectively after tested negative of COVID-19. The governor, Adegboyega Oyetola disclosed this during a press briefing on Sunday at the State secretariat, Governors Office, Abere, Osogbo. Oyetola said, “One of the early cases in Osun has been discharged after testing negative twice to the Virus, in line with the prescribed protocol of the NCDC. “The 109 whose results came back negative have been released to join their families. Among them are: 11 to Oyo State, two are going to Lagos State, One to Ogun State, three each to Edo and Abia states, four to Delta State and one to Imo State while 85 will remain here in Osun. They have been advised to observe all the prescribed safety and preventive measures and to call our helplines if they start to feel unwell. The emergency line remains 293.

#COVID-19: Fayemi appoints Babalola, Fayose, others in resource mobilization committee

Governor Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti State Gov.) Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi on Saturday set up a 47-member panel of eminent citizens of the state into its Response Resource Mobilisation Committee as part of the efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Fayemi named the founder, Afe Babalola University, Chief Afe Babalola, as the grand patron of the committee, which has captains of industry, distinguished private sector players, renowned professionals and prominent members of Ekiti in the Diaspora as members. The governor also appointed three past governors of the state, Chief Niyi Adebayo, Chief Segun Oni and Chief Ayodele Fayose as patrons of the committee. Osun govt finds suspected Coronavirus patient who ran away from isolation

Osun State Government on Saturday announced that it has found an undisclosed person who was said to have vanished from the Ejigbo isolation centre in the early hours of the day. The Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan gave the update. "The person has been found within Ejigbo and returned to the State isolation centre for the pandemic Coronavirus, what we are currently doing is contact tracing because we want to ensure that everyone is safe." Omipidan told our correspondent during a telephone chat. Earlier, the state government raised an alarm thatan undisclosed person who is among the recent returnees from Cote d’ivoire suspected to a carrier of the pandemic Coronavirus has vanished from the Ejigbo isolation centre. According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, the government denied a rumour in the which stated that six out of the 127 returnees are on the run.
